Today I was working on a Wildlife gallery and stumbled on this image that I really liked. This was shot in March of 2006 in lovely Sarasota Florida on Sarasota Bay at sunrise. I will tell a little technical stuff about the shot. The image was taken with a Nikon D70 and a 70-200mm lens with a 1.7x teleconverter which in 35mm terms gives a reach of 480mm.
This was enough reach for this location, but longer glass is all ways better. The first image was shot from the mast of Captain Terry’s boat which is great for getting up high so that you are level with the birds and not shooting up which is normally the case. I highly recommend Reelin & Chillin Charters for Terrys birding expertise. He provides some great wildlife locations and is someone who knows the bird sanctuaries and can provide the best shooting locations on the gulf.

In going back to the image after 5 years, I realized I had not shot any color card reference for adjustment information and now see what a mistake that was, because now I’m guessing and can’t get the results I could have with a light card reference. The lesson is all ways shoot color reference card.
