Photographing Nesting Eagles
I went back and followed the road, so I could get closer, but the road is posted by the endangered species act and marked by the sign and I couldn’t get any closer.
I wouldn’t want to cause any interference, so I stayed back to the limits. It is the ethical thing to do.
I shoot from the location on the road using a longer lens, 400mm on crop body gives me
35mm equal of 600mm still not enough. I really need a 600mm = 1200mm. lol
More is always better when it comes to camera glass.
I was happy with my little pictures, IMHO. still not sharp enough.
Hand Held. I set the shutter speed to 500 sec thinking the image stabilization would fix it.
Well it didn’t, I think it should have been 1000 sec.
I enjoyed spending time with the eagles, the male came over my head, it was like he was checking me out.
I thought the hike was tough, but not beyond my limits.

I measured it, its 1.15 miles, so what ever your walking pace is will tell you how long it will take. A 20 minute walk if you don’t stop and shoot like I do will get you there.
WOWEEE! Very cool Lou. Congratulations! What ISO did you use? — Denise
Thanks, I’m almost temped to go rent a big mama. lol
anyway, the nest shot was ISO 200 there was lots of light at 10:00 am
1/500 at f/7.1 the rest were of the flight stuff was at 1/500 f/11.
Also they are all crop to 1:1.
Good job, Lou. Really good considering you shot handheld. How long did it take to hike into that spot? FYI in re the Endangered Species sign, the Bald Eagle was delisted June 30, 2007. I’m sure we don’t want to disturb the nesting eagle but how about Emile and Co. reaching into the nest? Helloooooooo?
Thanks for the comments, I think maybe 20-30 minutes, The pic were taken at 10:00
so, I left the house around 9:00 o’clock. Just a guess, your mileage may vary. lol
