This tree is native to eastern North America, a naturally occurring hybrid between scarlet oak (Q.coccinea) and the red oak (Q. rubra)
The tree is possible 250 years old and provides a dramatic entrance to the Morris Arboretum garden hilltop home.
This tree is noted for its branch structure more visible in the winter, it has shiny green leaves in summer and red colored leaves in the fall.
