Fine Art Sunset Photography
Sunset or sundown is the daily disappearance of the Sun below the horizon as a result of Earth’s rotation. The Sun will set exactly due west at the equator on the spring and fall equinoxes, each of which occurs only once a year.
Basic Tips
The camera settings that Improve Photography recommends for a beginning photographer are:
– Shoot in aperture priority mode (A or AV on your mode dial)
– Put the camera on a tripod
– Set your aperture to f/16
– Set your ISO to 100
– Let the camera set your shutter speed
– Put the focus point 1/3 into the scene

Update 3-23-2022
It was my birthday evening and my wife and I decided to go to Cape May Point to enjoy a beautiful sunset. I hope you like it. Please leave comments.
A beautiful location for sunrise or sunset is Monument valley, Navajo County, Arizona. The silence in the valley is golden, I have never found a more quiet and golden source of light in the valley.
Another of my favorite places to watch the sunset and enjoy nature at the max is Shenandoah Valley, Skyline Drive, Sunset, VA

The best sunset quotes of all time
Sunset is the opening music of the night.
Every sunset brings the promise of a new dawn.
Every sunset is an opportunity to reset.
Twilight drops her curtain down and pins it with a star.
It is almost impossible to watch a sunset and not dream.

The one with the ships rigging is really dramatic – a great travel photo. That sunset feels WARM.
Jim; Thanks for the visit and comments.
Lovely images Lou. I used to have a bad attitude about shooting sunset and sunrise photos. Almost a snobby and definitely inaccurate view that the were too easy. That anyone could make a pretty sunset/rise photo. My attitude has changed. I now love shooting these magic times. There is a lot of skill involved in getting proper exposure and the creativeness required to find a strong composition is always present.
Thanks, Bob, I’ve added some tips, I hope they help. I always Google for a tip and when I can’t remember how to shoot a sunset.
Sunsets are for ever intriguing to watch, but difficult to make into an interesting photo. I have a lot, but few are really satisfying to me. I now think that they need to be part of something else, a backdrop to an interesting scene or silhouette perhaps. I like the skyline drive image above with the receding valleys. Although the colors are a bit overdone for my taste perhaps?
Thanks for the visit, I love sunrises better than sunsets, but can’t get up anymore. I did an interest combination of light with sunrise and full moon, by accident on the beach.
The photo of Shenandoah valley was sold to a dentist who was opening a practice in Shenandoah valley, she purchased rights to the image and made it in to a 60 in Triptych.
She sent me a photo of the wall display. I have since moved on from HDR.
