Cuttalossa Farm – New Hope Pa

Here’s some farm landscape photos from the lovely Cuttalossa Farm be sure and visit it’s in the lovely New Hope PA area. The “smiling sheep” under the towering hemlocks along Cuttalossa Road, one of the most picturesque spots in Bucks County.

Photograph of a beautiful old mill house at Cuttalossa farm, New Hope, PA. This Mill is one of the outbuildings located on one of the most photographed locations in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Cuttalossa Farm was once the home of the renowned impressionist painter, Daniel Garber.

Daniel Garber was an American Impressionist landscape painter and member of the art colony at New Hope, Pennsylvania. He is best known today for his large impressionist scenes of the New Hope area, in which he often depicted the Delaware River. He also painted figurative interior works and excelled at etching.

Here at Cuttalossa Farm, we are proud to be a part of the original group of shepherds that formed the Olde English Miniature Babydoll Southdown Sheep Breeders Association and Registry. Our organization was established in 1990 by our president and founder, Robert Mock.

The sheep are a main attraction, with their smiling faces (characteristic of the miniature baby doll breed) and bells on their collars that ring out beautiful melodies.  I was told that Garber had gotten them from Switzerland, and that each bell played a different note in an octave.  The sheep roam in a clearing that is surrounded by towering sycamores and hemlocks, beside a mill.  A small sheep shed sits at the far end.  There is a stillness about the place, punctuated with the occasional bleating of the sheep and chiming of the bells, that speaks of sanctuary.

“Cuttalossa” comes from the name of an Indian village which existed in the area, meaning “the place of the middle fountain or spring”.
