After the dramatic rescue at the mouth of Inlet after victims trapped under boat.
I happened to be at LBI at Barnegat Lighthouse a couple of days later and took a photograph of the coast guard practice their rescue techniques with their helicopter. Better to be prepared for the next accident at the inlet.
The Coast Guard’s aging fleet of 98 Airbus MH-65 Dolphin helicopters are an integral part of the sea service, handling most of its toughest airborne missions. But with the hard-used MH-65 fleet facing a long, drawn-out path toward retirement, serious readiness and safety challenges are looming.
I prefer the Sikorsky MH-60T Jayhawk is a multi-mission, twin-engine, medium-range helicopter operated by the United States Coast Guard for search and rescue. I worked for Sikorsky as an aeronautical engineer.

Great photos, Louis – being there at the right time with a camera is something we should all remember!
