A trip to Cape May, New Jersey is not complete without a visit to Della’s 5 & 10 cent store
I love Cape May, New Jersey because this is my hometown. I graduated in the first class from Lower Cape May Regional High School.
What is it about the sea that draws us near, is it the connection to water which has the same chemistry as our blood? I love to hear the sounds the ocean makes, the power of the pounding surf, or is the silence between the waves? It is only now that I can think about it, as I am disconnected from its environment, but I can still feel me being pulled back to it.
The next time, I’ll do an HD video with sound, so I will be able to hear it again.

Knight’s Code of Chivalry
“A knight was expected to have not only the strength and skills to face combat in the violent Middle Ages, but was also expected to temper this aggressive side of a knight with a chivalrous side to his nature. There was not an authentic Knight’s Code of Chivalry as such – it was a moral system which went beyond rules of combat and introduced the concept of Chivalrous conduct – qualities idealized by knighthood, such as bravery, courtesy, honor, and gallantry toward women.”
The Knight’s Code of Chivalry and the vows of Knighthood
The Knight’s Code of Chivalry described in the Song of Roland and an excellent representation of the Knights Codes of Chivalry are as follows:
Update, I never processed my photographs from my trip to Paris, so it’s a big project.
The incredible beauty of Paris is evident when you look at her from the top of the Arc de Triomphe.
Look towards Champs Elysees and Louvre Museum 5km east. Look towards La Defense district 5 km west. Walk around 360°. Paris is yours and makes you feel great. You are ready to grasp the city.
The Arc de Triomphe is a good introduction to a visit of Paris. Its association with Napoleon and World War One gives it another dimension.
Visit Arc de Triomphe
If you don’t have much time, you can see the Arc de Triomphe on a Paris tour. A full visit of Arc de Triomphe will take you less than two hours. See details on Arc de Triomphe web site.
Your visit will be quite easy if you stay near Champs Elysees. This district has good and conveniently located hotels which we recommend.

Cranberry harvest (wet-picking)
Cranberries are harvested in the fall when the fruit takes on its distinctive deep red color. This is usually in September through the first part of November. To harvest cranberries, the beds are flooded with six to eight inches of water above the vines. A harvester is driven through the beds to remove the fruit from the vines. For the past 50 years, water reel type harvesters have been used. Harvested cranberries float in the water and can be corralled into a corner of the bed and conveyed or pumped from the bed. From the farm, cranberries are taken to receiving stations where they are cleaned, sorted, and stored prior to packaging or processing.
Although most cranberries are wet-picked as described above, 5–10% of the US crop is still dry-picked. This entails higher labor costs and lower yield, but dry-picked berries are less bruised and can be sold as fresh fruit instead of having to be immediately frozen or processed. Originally performed with two-handed comb scoops, dry picking is today accomplished by motorized, walk-behind harvesters which must be small enough to traverse beds without damaging the vines.
It’s cranberry season and it’s always a treat to watch a harvest because it so technical and colorful. I think there must be a little bit of framer in me and everyone else who watches.
I was looking for color and found it in these palms on Folly Island, SC. The location was the Lost Dog Café Cozy café serving all-day breakfast & coffee plus sandwiches, salads & wraps, and it has a dog wall of fame. If you visit the café, you will be allowed to add your dog’s photo to exhibited on the wall.
There are many reasons to visit the Edge of America (a.k.a. Folly Beach), but if you’re a nature enthusiast who loves scavenging for fossils, then you can hit a real payload here. Anyone can find them, but if you want to know where the real honey hole is, you’ll book a tour with Charleston Fossil Adventures.
A Trip To This Fossil Beach In South Carolina Is An Adventure Like No Other
If you’re the sort of person with a love – and maybe with even a bit of an obsession – for finding hidden treasure, then this seashore adventure in South Carolina is a superb way to scratch your treasure-hunting itch.
The adventure involves Folly Beach… adoringly known as the most laid back beach on the South Carolina coast. Folly’s “Edge of America” moniker, and the carefree nature of the locals, make it one of the most loved beaches in the state. But there’s one thing most people don’t know about Folly.

Here’s another rewrite (04-23-2022) in the series of old cemeteries. I will continue to post a series of both regular and infrared photographs that I have taken at Laurel Hill Cemetery and Mt. Moriah cemeteries, because it takes a lot of time to process IR, I will post more this week and continue till I get caught up. Thanks for visiting with me as we wander through the tomb stones in the IR world, I hope to capture some ghosts some day. Please leave comments. Thanks in advance.
In late 1835, John Jay Smith, a Quaker and librarian, recorded in his diary: “The City of Philadelphia has been increasing so rapidly of late years that the living population has multiplied beyond the means of accommodation for the dead…on recently visiting Friends grave yard in Cherry Street I found it impossible to designate the resting place of a darling daughter, determined me to endeavor to procure for the citizens a suitable, neat and orderly location for a rural cemetery.”
Smith’s very personal experience ultimately had very public implications, as less than one year later, this grieving father founded Laurel Hill Cemetery with partners Nathan Dunn, Benjamin W. Richards and Frederick Brown. When Smith conceived of Laurel Hill, he envisioned something fundamentally different from the burial places that came before it, and the site has continued to hold an important place of distinction as one of the first cemeteries of its kind. Key concepts to Laurel Hill’s founding were that it had to be situated in a picturesque location well outside the city; that it had no religious affiliation; and that it provided a permanent burial space for the dead in a restful and tranquil setting.
In an era when the city suffered from crowding, disease and scarcity of public space, Laurel Hill offered an “alternative environment.” Previously, churchyards were the only places available to bury the dead, and they were often as crowded and unsanitary as the streets that bordered them. Worse yet, rapid industrialization and population growth commonly led to the disinterment of burial grounds to make way for roads and buildings. Laurel Hill’s founding is deeply rooted in the cultural history of Philadelphia’s urbanization, and in the simultaneous development of crafted, suburban sanctuaries of nature and retreat just beyond the city’s limits. Laurel Hill was not only established as a permanent, non-sectarian burial place for the dead, but also as a scenic, riverside sanctuary for the living.
TABERNACLE CEMETERY – RESTING PLACE OF INDIAN ANN
Mount Moriah Cemetery is a historic rural cemetery that spans the border between Southwest Philadelphia and Yeadon, Pennsylvania. It was established in 1855 and is the largest cemetery in Pennsylvania. It is 200 acres in size and contains 150,000 burials. Wikipedia
Since its establishment in 1855, the rolling landscape of Mount Moriah Cemetery has been an inclusive final resting place for Philadelphia’s diverse population, welcoming of all races and incomes, and adapting to changing burial needs of its diverse communities, including incorporating US military lots, Muslim burials, and communal plots.
After the cemetery was abandoned by its owners, The Friends of Mount Moriah, Inc. was formed. The group has been working diligently since 2011 to restore this beautiful green space. The mission is to make the grounds accessible for families to safely visit their loved ones while creating a place for people to connect with nature, take a walk, ride bikes, bird watch, and find serenity in the middle of a densely urban environment.

I was in Medford for a class and I spied this classic daffodil on the desk. See if you can guess which flower it was? It made me think of my grandmother, she loved daffodils. Today’s walk led me to many beautiful daffodil flowers.
The original
I attended a great lecture yesterday at Bartram’s Gardens, in Philadelphia. I learned a lot about daffodils and enjoyed the fantastic Bartram’s Bitters cocktail reception and book-signing along with curator’s tours of the Bartram’s daffodil collection—living relics of bulbs brought to Bartram’s Garden centuries ago, blooming in the same place year after year I also visited my grandmother cemetery in Yeadon, PA
My grandmother really loved daffodils, and now I am being to understand her relationship with the flower. My favorite daffodil was the Poet’s Narcissus (Narcissus poeticus)
There was a great lecture by Sara L. Van Beck, author of Daffodils in American Gardens, 1733-1940, visits Bartram’s Garden to tell the fascinating story of the genus Narcissus and its journey from the Mediterranean basin to the gardens of historic Philadelphia. The talk will be followed by a Bartram’s Bitters cocktail reception and book-signing along with curator’s tours of the Bartram’s daffodil collection—living relics of bulbs brought to Bartram’s Garden centuries ago, blooming in the same place year after year.
Sara L. Van Beck, horticulturist and plant historian, is an officer of the American Daffodil Society and serves on the board of the Cherokee Garden Library at the Atlanta History Center. Van Beck has worked as a museum curator with the National Park Service and is the former president of the Georgia Daffodil Society.
I liked this quote by William Wordsworth
The speaker was walking around through the hills and valleys, but he felt all lonely and mopey. Suddenly, as he passed a lake, he noticed a big group of yellow daffodils waving in the breeze. This wasn’t just some scattered patch of daffodils. We’re talking thousands and thousands around this particular bay. And all these flowers were dancing.
Yes, the daffodils danced, and so did the waves of the lake. But the daffodils danced better. The speaker’s loneliness was replaced by joy, but he didn’t even realize what a gift he has received until later. Now, whenever he’s feeling kind of blah, he just thinks of the daffodils, and his heart is happily dancing.
